Turn on microphone - Mac + Safari

For most users, Joy Notes will just prompt you to give access to your microphone, and when you press ‘Allow’ it simply works. However, there may be settings in your browser that blocks softwares to access your microphone, that you will need to unblock for Joy to record. We can't change those settings for you, but this guide is here to help you troubleshoot.

Note: this guide is for Safari

The browser that Joy Notes is running on is the browser that you need to change the settings for. We recommend you run Joy Notes on Chrome for the best experience.

Safari:

Mac computer:

Go to the menu bar at the top of the screen. Safari- Settings.

Safari- Settings

It will open up a pop-up like this.:

Select Websites at the top. Select Microphone in the left hand menu. Depending on whether you have Joy Notes open right now or not, you may have Joy Notes on the list as in the screenshot above. If so, make sure the setting is NOT set for 'Deny'. Set it to either 'Allow' or 'Ask' . If you don't have Joy Notes on the list, you can still change the setting for how the browers treats webpages generally, including Joy Notes. That you set at the bottom right hand corner. Again, set it to either 'Allow' or 'Ask' (depending if you want to automatically allow access for websites or you want to be asked first). If you changed a setting, reload Safari so that the setting can be applied.

If you've got the correct setting but it's still not working, here are a couple of more tips:
Check that you don't have headphones or another mic connected. That's happened a bunch of times when somebody has headphones connected but not wearing them so the sound is not picked up.
Try the old trick of logging out and in again, or switch the browser down and open again. Computers are computers, sometimes they randomly don't want to work and then next time they do!
