Turn on microphone - Mac + Chrome

For most users, Joy Notes will just prompt you to give access to your microphone, and when you press ‘Allow’ it simply works. However, there may be settings in your browser that blocks softwares to access your microphone, that you will need to unblock for Joy to record. We can't change those settings for you, but this guide is here to help you troubleshoot.

Note: this guide is for Chrome

The browser that Joy Notes is running on is the browser that you need to change the settings for. We recommend you run Joy Notes on Chrome for the best experience.

Mac computer:

You should automatically be prompted to allow Joy to access your mic:

If you accidentally pressed 'Don't Allow' here, or you never saw this pop-up, click on the little setting icon the in the address field to change setting for Joy Notes. If the Microphone blocked, press 'Reset permission':

Alternatively, you can access your mic settings in Chrome via the settings:

Select 'Privacy and security' in the left hand menu, and then 'Site settings':

Click 'Microphone':

Here, check the Default Behaviour and make sure that sites can ask to use your microphone. Also check if their are any Customised Behaviours set for Joy Notes, and if so make sure Joy Notes is allowed to use the microphone. If Joy Notes is listed under 'Not allowed to use your microphone', delete that setting using the bin icon.

If you've got the correct setting but it's still not working, here are a couple of more tips:
Check that you don't have headphones or another mic connected. That's happened a bunch of times when somebody has headphones connected but not wearing them so the sound is not picked up.
Try the old trick of logging out and in again, or switch the browser down and open again. Computers are computers, sometimes they randomly don't want to work and then next time they do!
