However, there may be settings in your browser that blocks softwares to access your microphone, that you will need to unblock for Joy to record. We can't change those settings for you, but this guide is here to help you troubleshoot.

You should automatically be prompted to allow the microphone on an Iphone:

If you accidentally clicked 'Don't allow' or didn't see a pop-up, and instead get this error screen why you try to record:

That means that you need to allow Joy Notes to use the microphone. Go into the phone's Settings and keep scrolling down until you get to Safari (or search if you can't find it). Click on Safari. And then click on 'Microphone':

Do I use voice commands such as “comma”, “full-stop” and “new paragraph”?

Accepted Answer

No, you just speak normally and Joy Notes will format the text for you automatically. We’ve chosen this approach to make it as quick and easy as possible to get that note down.

Joy Notes will make very short paragraphs of one or two sentences automatically. Some prefer longer paragraphs and be in control of when a new paragraph starts, so we’ve made that possible too by using the voice command “New paragraph”. However, you don’t have to use that voice command. Just leave it, talk away, and Joy will make short paragraphs automatically.

Question 4

I don’t like the short paragraphs, can I decide for myself when a new paragraph starts?

Accepted Answer

Yes you can. You have the option to tell Joy Notes when to start a new paragraph, or let it make short paragraphs automatically. This is how each option works:

**1. Decide when a new paragraph starts: ** Simply say “New paragraph” or “New section”, and Joy will start a new paragraph and continue to put everything you say in that same paragraph until you say “New paragraph” again.

**2. Let Joy Notes automatically format the text into short paragraphs: ** Simply talk away, without any voice commands, and Joy will make short paragraphs automatically. If Joy Notes hears “New paragraph” once, it will know that you prefer option 1 and will not make any automatic paragraphs. If you never say “New paragraph” it will know that you prefer option 2, and divide the text into short paragraphs of 1-2 sentences.

How to create a note

Press the +New button. If you get a pop-up asking to give access to your microphone, press ‘Allow’
Press the ‘Start’ button and simply start talking. You don’t need to use any voice commands such as “full-stop” or “comma” or “New paragraph”, it will automatically format the text for you. (You can however choose to take control of when a new paragraph starts if you prefer, if so check out the question on paragraphs here in the FAQ).
If you need to stop and think, press the “pause button”, and when you’re ready to continue press the play button again.
When you are finished, press Stop.

You will be asked to name your note. For ease there is a default note name prefilled, existing of the weekday and time. If you are happy with that name, just press Save. If you want a different name, e.g. the number or name of your client, just type over the text in the Note name box with anything you want, and then press save.

That’s it!

Go to the menu bar at the top of the screen. Safari- Settings.

Select Websites at the top. Select Microphone in the left hand menu. Depending on whether you have Joy Notes open right now or not, you may have Joy Notes on the list as in the screenshot above. If so, make sure the setting is NOT set for 'Deny'. Set it to either 'Allow' or 'Ask' .
